SME research conducted by Wallis in late 2025, on behalf of Gundabluey Research Pty and NAB, shows Australian small businesses are at a pivotal moment in their AI adoption journey. The data reveals AI usage is accelerating, though adoption varies sharply across industries. Currently, 42 percent of small businesses are already using AI, with a further 14 percent planning to adopt it. Businesses report clear benefits, including time savings through the automation of repetitive tasks and stronger decision making. While adoption differs significantly by sector, property services are leading the way, while transport and storage businesses present the greatest opportunity for growth. This snapshot features in NAB’s April SME Business Insights, which takes a closer look at how Australian businesses are adopting AI. We are pleased to support Gundabluey in delivering this important work each month and to help ensure the experiences of Australian businesses are reflected in the data that matters. Businesses with a turnover of more than $2 million are now being sought to participate. As a participant, you'll receive the survey results on release day; an invaluable planning tool to stay ahead of the competition.
