One of our best employees nearly didn’t get hired. It made us change our whole interview process. Tobias came in quiet. He was incredibly humble. I had to pull his achievements out of him one by one. IOI champion - one of the most selective competitive programming competitions in the world. Chess champion. Skier at near-professional level. He was just too humble to say any of it. Our interview almost filtered him out. Here's what we learned: interview performance and job performance are different signals. A quiet interview can hide a great hire, and a confident one can hide a great surprise. So we changed the process. We lean heavily on case studies - real work, scored on output. We weight referrals from people who've actually shipped with the candidate. We try to build a hiring process that reflects the job, not just the interview. Most hiring processes are optimized for interview performance, not job performance. Tobias has been one of our best hires. If you build things and don't love selling yourself, we want to talk to you.
