This nomination recognises the joint efforts of researchers, fire services and partners across Europe to improve preparedness for extreme wildfire events. šŸ”„ Extreme wildfires are an increasing challenge. These fires can generate their own weather systems, causing them to develop rapidly and unpredictably. To better support fire services, EWED developed new forecasting tools that provide valuable insights into fire behaviour, risks, and potential fire spread. What makes this nomination especially meaningful is that EWED's impact did not end when the project concluded. Through the follow-up ODET project, the knowledge, data, tools, and international collaborations established by EWED continue to be expanded, helping to strengthen Europe's preparedness and response to extreme wildfires. šŸŽ„ In the video, Chiel van Heerwaarden, Tristan Roelofs (Meteorology and Air Quality Group, WUR) and Zisoula Ntasiou (Hellenic Fire Corps Official Ī Ļ…ĻĪæĻƒĪ²ĪµĻƒĻ„Ī¹ĪŗĻŒ Ī£ĻŽĪ¼Ī± ΕλλάΓας) present the EWED project and its contribution to improving our understanding of, preparedness for and response to extreme wildfire events. This nomination is a recognition of all partners from the Netherlands, Greece, Norway and Catalonia who successfully brought science and practice together.
