🐕‍🦺🐾 Above ground, they’re hard to beat, but what’s it like to sniff around 150 meters below the earth’s surface? Surrounded by salt and other unfamiliar smells? Can a dog’s sense of smell still hold its own down there? Eight search-and-rescue dog teams set out to answer this question a few days ago at the WACKER salt mine in Stetten. Together with their human partners, the dogs practiced searching for and rescuing missing persons. They were not deterred by the smell of salt or the unfamiliar surroundings. All eight teams met the expectations set for them; all “missing” persons were reliably located and reported by the search dogs – proof of their excellent training and close cooperation with their handlers. 👏 #SearchAndRescue #RescueDogs #saltmine #Stetten #WeareWACKER
