Behind every design decision aboard Zero lies a deeper story. For six years, a close-knit group of owners, designers and engineers pushed the design of Zero into uncharted territory. “We visited the owners’ homes and listened carefully to their needs to better interpret what they wanted from this design,” says Marnix Hoekstra. Elegance, comfort and independence were at the heart of the owners’ vision for Zero - a yacht capable of sailing for up to two weeks using solely renewable energy, without relying on fossil fuels. Built around energy generation rather than consumption, Zero challenged conventional thinking from the outset. “It all began with the technology, but we knew she also had to be beautiful,” says Hoekstra. The challenge was to create a yacht shaped by physics and data that still feels timeless. Vripack’s response was to move away from repetition and familiar detailing, while staying true to the owners’ love of classic sailing yachts. From bespoke deck hardware and curved structural glass to hand-carved double-curved oak corners and natural materials, every detail was carefully considered. “Each element connects seamlessly to the next and the beauty of our work lies in these connections,” explains Hoekstra. “They’re what give Zero her sense of calm and cohesion. It’s not overdesigned; every detail simply answers to the same rhythm.” If geometry is Zero’s backbone, nature is her soul. #ProjectZero #SailingyachtZero #Yachtdesign #Designprocess
