How do you feel when images, texts, and music are created without a human maker? We explored this question during the annual Abraham Kuyper Lecture, centred around 'The Value of Human Effort’. In a time where these forms are increasingly created without a human maker, we explored what this means for our sense of authenticity. For those who missed the lecture, here’s a short recap: ✍️ Thomas Heerma van Voss opened the evening with a reflection on authenticity in literature. 💡Computer scientist Felienne Hermans showed how digital systems are also shaped by human choices. 🖼️ Assistant Professor of Art History Klazina Botke explored how we assign value and meaning to art. 🎼 The VU Chamber Choir closed the programme with a powerful live performance, placing human voice and presence at the centre. 🎤 Moderation by Roos van Rijswijk. A big thank you goes to Thomas Heerma van Voss, our Writer in Residence at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. With his contribution to this year’s lecture, he concludes his residency and passes the torch to Arnon Grunberg, starting 1 June. So how do we feel when images, texts and music are created without a human maker? Let us know your thoughts in the comments 👇 #vuamsterdam #university
