Sometimes a single campaign reminds us why we love marketing and leadership that carries real heart. When Mercedes-Benz AG CEO Dieter Zetsche retired in 2019, concluding a 49-year career with the company, BMW Group could have stayed silent. Instead, they delivered a tribute featuring a lookalike. We watch "Zetsche" say his goodbyes, take his final ride home in his iconic #Mercedes… and then, with a wink, roll out of his garage in a #BMW i8 Roadster with the line “Free at last.” This made me smile. But what truly stayed with me was the message that followed—BMW thanking their long-time competitor for years of inspiring rivalry. In a world obsessed with winning, this is a reminder that respect, admiration and shared passion drive us further than competition ever could.
