The world’s first Volvo A30 Electric articulated haulers are now at work on a hydropower project in Norway. Delivered together with Volvo Maskin AS to LNS AS for the Hemsil 3 power plant project in Hallingdal, the machines will support the construction of an approximately 20 km tunnel - a demanding environment where zero-emission operation can make a clear difference. The project, carried out on behalf of Hafslund, is expected to increase annual energy production by around 110 GWh when completed in 2029. To help reduce project-related greenhouse gas emissions, electric machines are becoming part of the construction process itself. The A30 Electric is produced at Volvo CE’s Braås site in Sweden and is the world’s first serial produced electric articulated hauler in its size class. For Volvo CE, this is another step in showing how battery-electric equipment can perform in real infrastructure projects. From roads and quarries to tunnels and energy production.
