Every Startup has a story - ours begins at the E.ON Energy Research Center in Aachen. More precisely at the Chair for Energy System Economics, RWTH Aachen University (FCN-ESE), where our founding team built a deep connection over the years. It all started with our co-founder Jan Priesmann, who completed his PhD at the Chair of Prof. Aaron Praktiknjo in 2024. His work combined energy economics and energy system analysis, developing models and tools to help shape the future of the energy system. Along the way, he and his colleagues at FCN-ESE experienced big challenges: 👉 A fragmented and inconsistent data landscape that made it difficult to access the right insights. 👉 Commissioning external analyses with custom assumptions remained complex and costly - highlighting strong potential for automation. 👉 Industry partners faced the same struggles - and often turned to the institute for solutions. That gap between research and industry application planted the seed for our company. Since founding Volatile in October 2024, we work to integrate proven scientific methods and experience into our market intelligence platform. When talking to customers, our background and network at FCN-ESE in Aachen builds trust - invaluable for a startup that just gains first market traction. What hasn’t changed since: our close partnership with FCN-ESE. We continue to exchange ideas, work on multiple research projects together, and look forward to many more collaborations.
