The next phase at Torrejón hydropower plant is underway 🚀 Together with Iberdrola, Voith Hydro is continuing the modernization of the Torrejón pumped storage power plant in Spain. The goal: helping the grid respond more quickly and flexibly to changing energy demand and increasing shares of renewable power. A key part of the upgrade is the introduction of variable-speed technology. This allows the plant to adapt its operation more precisely to grid requirements, improving flexibility, efficiency and overall performance. Following the successful completion of the first phase, work is now moving forward on the remaining units, with commissioning planned for 2028. Pumped storage remains one of the most important energy storage technologies today. Projects like Torrejón show how existing infrastructure can be upgraded to support the evolving needs of modern power systems.
