Across Africa, connection is not only about access to a network. It is about whether people can use that access to learn, earn, participate and thrive🌍. For millions of people, digital and financial inclusion can be the difference between being connected and being left behind. That is why collaboration between governments, regulators, development partners, civil society, communities and the private sector is essential to creating opportunities that improve everyday lives. In FY2026, the impact of these partnerships was reflected in practical outcomes for people and communities. More than 4.0 million beneficiaries accessed education through e-learning platforms and school connectivity programmes. A further 68,878 people with disabilities benefited from tailored services, support centres and training designed to increase accessibility and participation. Across South Africa, Tanzania, the DRC and Kenya, 9.9 million registered users accessed agricultural platforms that helped connect farmers and communities to information, markets and opportunities. The year also saw continued progress in ensuring that technology serves people responsibly. This included strengthening human rights due diligence and embedding AI-specific human rights impact assessments into our Responsible AI governance programme. This is what Powered by Connection means in practice: helping more people access opportunity, strengthening inclusion and enabling communities to participate more fully in the social and economic life of their countries.
