Our Chief Customer Officer and Interim Chief Network Officer Matt Walsh took the stage at the Mid West Major Projects Conference yesterday to talk about Project Horizon and what metro-grade digital infrastructure means for the region. A few standouts from the session: ➡️Horizon isn't an isolated regional cable. It's a 2,000km extension of our national and international fibre network into the heart of the Mid West and Pilbara, deliberately routed inland to follow economic activity rather than the coastline. ➡️Hancock Iron Ore is already running around 50 autonomous haul trucks from a Perth control room over Horizon. The trucks are so precise they wear ruts into the road – the team had to introduce variability because the accuracy was too high. ➡️For decades, large parts of the Mid West and Pilbara have had a single long-haul fibre provider. Horizon changes that, introducing genuine choice. As Matt put it, the Mid West deserves infrastructure that matches the scale of what it contributes to this country.
