Last week we had the privilege of celebrating the retirement of Dr. Jay Dobkin, Medical Director of SelectHealth from VNS Health, and honoring a remarkable career defined by leadership, compassion, innovation, and service. For more than 50 years, Dr. Dobkin has served as a physician, researcher, educator, mentor, and advocate. As a pioneer in infectious disease and HIV care, he was on the early frontlines of New York’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, impacting countless lives. His influence has extended far beyond New York through collaborations with national and international organizations, including the World Health Organization. As Medical Director of SelectHealth, VNS Health’s HIV Special Needs Plan, Dr. Dobkin has championed innovative, person-centered models of care to help improve member outcomes. Under his leadership, SelectHealth has been a consistent high performer in HIV viral load suppression rates among Medicaid plans in New York. But those who know Dr. Dobkin understand that his greatest legacy is not found in titles or statistics but in the colleagues he mentored, patients he championed, and kindness, wisdom, and integrity he brought to every interaction. Thank you, Dr. Dobkin, for your extraordinary contributions to VNS Health, HIV care, and the countless lives you've touched. We wish you continued health, happiness, and fulfillment in this well-deserved next chapter.
