Grateful to be part of this team project survey, alongside mentors and colleagues, focused on the challenges faced by young oncologists in Romania, organized by RYO - Romanian Young Oncologists and Societatea Nationala de Oncologie Medicala din Romania. We hope these findings will help shape future directions that improve both the professional journey of young oncologists and the care provided to cancer patients. 📊 169 respondents (39%) out of a total of 457 oncologists under the age of 40 in Romania 🔎 Key Challenges Identified: • Job instability – high prevalence of temporary contracts and limited permanent positions • Lack of mentorship – absence of structured programs and institutional support • Research barriers – insufficient funding, lack of protected time, and limited academic opportunities • Reduced mobility – obstacles in accessing training fellowships and international grants 💡 Proposed Action Points: • Expand structured mentorship programs at national and international levels (e.g., SNOMR & ESMO - European Society for Medical Oncology& European School of Oncology) • Ensure protected time for research and increase funding for academic activities • Develop integrated clinical–academic career pathways • Strengthen international collaborations and support professional reintegration after training abroad.
