The FIFA World Cup 2026™ highlights how major sporting events drive economic impact far beyond the pitch. While fans support their teams in North America, the commercial boost is strongly felt back home in England. An analysis of Visa data by Visa Consulting and Analytics (VCA) reveals that pub spending after 9pm increased by 70% on England match days, alongside a 10% rise in grocery spending as fans prepared to watch the action at home. Regionally, the sharpest increases in UK pub spend were seen in Birmingham, Bristol and Leeds.
