In 2006, Virgin StartUp didn’t exist. Many of the founders we’ve gone on to support were still at school, starting their careers, or hadn’t even launched their first business. Fast forward 20 years and we’ve helped fund more than 7,000 founders, who have created 14,000+ jobs and generated more than £550m for the UK economy. We’ve built a founder community of almost 5,000 members, committed 40,000+ hours of one-to-one mentoring, and delivered 30+ startup accelerators supporting underrepresented founders. We’ve even established ‘Purposeful Procurement’ within the Virgin Group, helping startups we’ve supported secure contracts worth more than £5 million to supply products and services to Virgin companies. Business has changed dramatically in that time. 💼 And yet, the Companies Act that governs UK businesses remains largely unchanged.
