Robert Wun was tired. So he went back to the beginning. Back to childhood. Back to Miyazaki. Back to the belief that a creator's responsibility is to build a world that makes adults believe in a better future. And from that place of exhaustion and wonder, he made what may be the most spectacular, dramatic and imaginative couture collection in recent memory. Wun arrived at his fall 2026 show after two and a half years without pause. His remedy was not rest. It was a return to archetypes: Disney heroines, nursery colours, giant toys, balloons, the transience of infancy, the unrealized ambitions of childhood. The collection opened in white, with naive paint-splash embroideries that felt like a child's first marks on paper. It evolved through wooden shapes in bright colorblocking, a vivid red fishtail dress with a spherical bodice, a tailored suit with origami proportions, Jack Skellington in dark fabric with embroideries evoking both bones and pinstripes. Snow White's blue velvet gown was pleated and twisted around the body, birds alighting on the shoulder and head. Bambi's mother arrived in billowing white with a horned headpiece, carrying a doll representing her infant. A ballerina in pink tulle and felt, a jewelry box figurine perched on her head. Giant toys accompanied several looks, a tweed teddy bear mirroring a jacket with shoulders rounded to match its ears. And then the finale: real balloons jutting out of the body of the closing tailored looks, a nod to the transience of infancy, a technical challenge that had both Wun and his stylist nervous. They needn't have worried. The effect was devastating in the best possible way. A new collaboration with Pop Mart's Skullpanda was unveiled through a giant white inflatable dominating the venue, with a limited-edition collectible sent exclusively to the 300 guests in attendance. Robert Wun is one of the most singular creative minds working in couture today. This show was proof, once again, that imagination, when it is this disciplined and this fearless, can produce something genuinely unforgettable. Full review: https://lnkd.in/erRqknCF WWD
