🇮🇹 OBELISCO DELLA FONTANA DEI QUATTRO FIUMI L’ Obelisco Agonale, collocato oggi al centro della Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi in Piazza Navona, realizzato in granito ed alto circa 17 metri, non è un obelisco "completamente egizio" nel verso senso della parola. Pur essendo infatti stato trasportato da Assuan, esso era inizialmente senza iscrizioni. L'obelisco venne inciso con geroglifici per ordine di Domiziano, in quel di Roma, con iscrizioni inerenti la vita e la divinizzazione di Domiziano stesso. Venne collocato tra il tempio di Serapide e quello di Iside, dove rimase per oltre due secoli, fino a quando Massenzio non lo fece collocare nel Circo, lungo la via Appia, costruito in memoria del figlio Romolo morto nel 310. 🇬🇧 OBELISK OF THE FOUR RIVERS FOUNTAIN The Agonal Obelisk, located today at the center of the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Navona Square, made of granite and about 17 meters high, is not a "completely Egyptian" obelisk in the pure sense of the word. Although it was transported from Aswan, it was initially without inscriptions. The obelisk was engraved with hieroglyphics by order of Domitian, in that of Rome, with inscriptions concerning the life and divinization of Domitian himself.
