Senior Policy Advisor in Security Governance | From conflict zones to policy processes
I am pleased to share the first output of a joint ICoCA - UNDP project I am leading on the role of private security in the reintegration of former members of armed forces and groups. Veterans are often joining private security : This new International Code of Conduct Association (ICoCA) guidance looks at how private security actors can support their transition to civilian life in ways that are responsible, rights‑respecting, and aligned with international standards. It draws on field insights, multi‑stakeholder consultations, and the practical challenges faced by those designing reintegration pathways. Strengthening reintegration is essential not only for individual wellbeing, but also for community resilience and long‑term peacebuilding. The role that private security companies can play has often been overlooked, yet, with the right safeguards, the sector can offer meaningful pathways for reintegration. Thanks to Glaucia Boyer, PhD, at UNDP for her leadership on this project; to Antoine Perret, PhD., Valentina Potapova, at ICoCA; Frédéric Massé, PhD. CHINWIKE OKEREKE.
