The 2021 Matarocchio from Marchesi Antinori continues a focused exploration of Cabernet Franc at Tenuta Guado al Tasso, a wine drawn from one vineyard parcel and released only when the vintage warrants it. Awarded 97 points by Wine Advocate, the 2021 vintage stands out for its lifted herbal character and unmistakable imprint of Bolgheri’s coastal landscape. Wine Advocate notes aromas of curry leaf, sweet bay, blackberry, blackcurrant, graphite, and pencil shaving, describing the wine as “a new secret weapon for an estate that has increasingly embraced Cabernet Franc as an exceptionally well-suited variety to the Tuscan coast.” Since its debut in 2007, Matarocchio has remained one of the rarest expressions within the Guado al Tasso portfolio, produced only in select vintages.
