Supporting a cornerstone of Polish history 🏛️  The Villum Foundation has granted 24.5 million Danish kroner to the expansion of the Warsaw Rising Museum – one of the Polish capital’s most important cultural institutions.  Located in a former tram power plant, the museum is dedicated to the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 – the largest urban resistance battle in Polish history. The museum pays tribute to those who fought and died for a free Republic and its capital city. Today, it is both a place of remembrance and a living cultural institution, visited by hundreds of thousands of people from Poland and abroad every year.  The expansion will add 7,200 m² of new educational, exhibition and community spaces, as well as a new green public area for the citizens of Warsaw – strengthening the museum’s role as a place for learning, reflection and public life.  "The Warsaw Rising Museum is one of Poland’s most important cultural institutions, with a historical significance that reaches far beyond national borders. The project is fully in line with the Villum Foundation’s ambition to create a more enlightened world, and we are pleased to support a project that will benefit so many people and enrich the cultural fabric of Warsaw," says Lars Bo Nielsen, Executive Director of the Villum Foundation.  The project is led by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the City of Warsaw and is expected to be completed in 2029.
