International Menstrual Hygiene Day: Combating period poverty 🌍 In many parts of the world, menstruation is still a taboo topic – also in the USA. Nearly one in four US students cannot afford menstrual products, causing them to miss school or work and preventing them from participating in leisure activities. At the same time, education about menstrual health and hygiene is insufficiently anchored in many US school curricula, and schools lack the resources and knowledge to teach about this topic. This is where PERIOD. comes in: The organization combines education and awareness with the provision of free menstrual products. With the support of the Viega Foundation, a comprehensive curriculum on menstrual health was developed and tested with over 1,000 pupils. Now this curriculum needs to be brought to where it is needed the most: to young people. Therefore, the developed educational materials are made available on a digital learning platform and distributed to teachers, school nurses, and other youth-focused partners via local partners. They can then use the materials to independently conduct workshops with PERIOD. providing support during the implementation. In addition, the project provides free menstrual products to girls. The aim is to reach at least 100,000 pupils nationwide so that they can deal with their menstruation in a self-determined, informed and shame-free manner. Together we can contribute to a positive change. 💛 #MHDay2026 #ViegaFoundation #Viega
