Urban design is public health. Nice piece by Centro de Estudos das Cidades - Laboratório Arq.Futuro do Insper on GreenCare4Health, the collaborative effort funded by NWO (Dutch Research Council) and FAPESP. For us involved in this project, schools can be the ultimate civic anchors for climate adaptation. Our Living Lab at the EMEF Luiz Gonzaga school in Heliópolis will be a testing ground in what Prof. Pepino Paulo Hilario Nascimento Saldiva calls "micro-urbanism." We will be measuring how changing physical materials impacts the human body at a microscopic level, transforming a vulnerable space into a healthy, community-governed green common.
