The Legal Services Research Centre recently published research finding that Victorian lawyers are embracing the use of generative AI, but want more support to do so responsibly. While over one-third of Victorian lawyers are using AI in their legal practice, the technology is mostly being used on a small scale to improve workflows and boost productivity. Lawyers cited barriers to adoption such as a lack of clear guidelines and governance, as well as the appetite for the technology in their workplace. Pleasingly, most Victorian lawyers believe they have a duty to ensure AI use is in line with professional obligations.
