A cold winter morning, but a warm crowd filled with one shared purpose. β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ–€ During National Reconciliation Week, the VU community came together with partners and the broader community for the Little Long Walk. Held with The Long Walk Trust Foundation, the walk carries the legacy of former AFL player Michael Long OAM’s 2004 Long Walk from Melbourne to Parliament House in Canberra – a powerful call for Indigenous rights, reconciliation, respect and unity that still matters deeply today.✊ The day opened with Aunty Joy Murphy Wandin AO sharing personal reflections and a moving Welcome to Country, followed by a traditional Smoking Ceremony led by Craig Murphy Wandin. From there, hundreds walked in solidarity through Footscray’s historic botanic gardens together – reflecting on what reconciliation asks of all of us, recognising the past, acknowledging the present, and moving with purpose toward truth-telling, equity and inclusion. πŸŒΏπŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ Big thanks to our partners walking with us on the day: Western Health | Greater Western Water | Western Chances | Western Bulldogs Community Foundation | Melbourne Airport | Comm Unity Plus Services Ltd (commUnity+) | Maribyrnong City Council | Futurity Investment Group | Footscray Community Arts | Orygen/headspace | Mercy Health Australia Full story behind the Little Long Walk & more voices from the dayπŸ‘‰ https://lnkd.in/edqqkRtG
