🎉 Great news for the VIB-KU Leuven Center For Neuroscience! Researchers Patrik Verstreken and Carles Calatayud Aristoy from the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Neuroscience have been awarded Step 1 of the EIC Advanced Innovation Challenges Pilot Grant for their project STRIALIS. This new European Commission funding scheme supports high-risk, deep-tech innovations with the potential to transform healthcare and society by bringing breakthrough research closer to real-world application. After a highly competitive selection process, the most promising projects can move forward to Step 2, where the focus shifts from development to real-world testing and validation with end users. With STRIALIS, Patrik and Carles aim to develop a human-based research platform that better captures the biological diversity of Parkinson’s disease. This could help researchers identify the right treatments for the right patients and move towards more predictive research, that could ultimately lead to better treatment options.
