💡 Responsible research starts with openness. On Be Open About Animal Research Day (#BOARD26), VIB joins the European Animal Research Association (EARA) and research institutions across Europe in promoting a transparent and nuanced conversation about animal research. 🔬 This year, the spotlight is on new approach methodologies (NAMs), including organoids, organs-on-chips, cell models, computational models and AI-based tools. These methods are transforming the way researchers study human biology and disease. At VIB, they are already being used in research on ALS, liver disease, cancer, brain biology and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. NAMs are powerful tools, but they do not automatically replace animal research. In some cases, they reduce or replace animal use. In others, they provide complementary insights that help scientists make better, more responsible research choices. That is why our commitment remains clear: to use the best available methods to advance science, improve health and conduct research responsibly.
