The 2022 World Cup final was watched by more than 1.4 billion people. 54 million tuned in just for the opening matches of this year's tournament. That number will grow until the final on July 19th. At peak, that is tens of millions of concurrent streams. All of them need infrastructure to scale up for the match. All of it needs to come back down when the whistle blows. Most broadcasters have a launch plan. A scaling plan. A CDN strategy. An on-call rota for match day. Nobody rehearses what happens when it all needs to come back down. That is the most expensive part of the event. And it runs for days after the final, not hours.
