A big question in sustainable fashion: Does second-hand fuel overconsumption? For Vestiaire Collective’s 2026 Impact Report Update, we partnered with independent economists to look past the marketing and measure actual consumer behavior. Meet the Net Impact Score. It’s calculated simply: (Substitution Rate) - (Rebound Effects) Here is what the data showed us: 🔄 The Substitution Rate: ~85% of our users are buying second-hand instead of buying new. 🛍️ The Rebound Effect: Because second-hand items are cheaper, people tend to buy more. ➡️ The Result: Our final score is largely positive. We call it The Collective Effect. ~ 9 out of 10 of our buyers have a net-positive impact on the environment. Buying second-hand on Vestiaire Collective does prevent overconsumption. Radical transparency is in our DNA, but we can't change the future of fashion alone. We’re challenging the rest of the industry to raise the bar. It's time for all brands to start reporting on true consumer behavior. What type of buyer are you? Dig into our latest data and what does the Collective Effect means via the link in the comments! 👇 #VestiaireCollective #CircularFashion #Sustainability #Impact #SecondHand
