VPNs were built for a different era. Once a user authenticates, they typically get broad access to the network. That's the model, and that's the problem. ZTNA flips the assumption. Authentication alone does not equal access. Every connection is evaluated based on who the user is, the state of their device, and the context of the request. That continuous verification is what makes ZTNA fundamentally different, not just incrementally better. The result is access scoped to what a user actually needs to do their job, with the attack surface reduced accordingly. We recently walked through this in our webinar on replacing VPN with ZTNA.
