⚓ From the VT archives: tank barge DELDEN (1912) The DELDEN sailed with us from the very beginning of the Verenigde Tankrederij. Built in 1912 in Burght (Belgium), 38.76 metres long, with a capacity of 336 tonnes and 8 tanks fitted with steam coils. On 1 January 1933, the vessel, then still named DIPPING II, was brought into the Verenigde Tankrederij fleet and renamed DELDEN. 🇳🇱 She was a true canal vessel: on the canals of Northern France, she wasn't towed by a tugboat, but by an electric locomotive running along the bank! For many years, she also carried edible oils from the Zaan all the way to Basel. After nearly 30 years of loyal service, the DELDEN was sold to Lisbon in 1961. Shipped as deck cargo aboard the steamship LOKAJA PALM, she travelled to Portugal, where she went on to work on the river Tagus. What happened to her after that? That remains a mystery... Vessels like the DELDEN laid the foundation we still build on today. 💪 #VTGroup #Binnenvaart #Tankvaart #Scheepvaart #MaritiemErfgoed #Rotterdam #Sleepschip #Historie
