Yesterday, John Hutchings and Matthew Penn attended the Westminster Property Association's Oxford Street Development Corporation (OSDC) update event, where they heard from Scott Parsons, Matthew Blades, and an insightful panel.   A clear theme throughout the discussion was that Oxford Street's current experience is no longer matching its global status. With increasing footfall, the arrival of the Elizabeth line, and growing competition from world-leading retail destinations, there is a strong case for creating a safer, more accessible, and higher-quality public realm.   The proposed pedestrianisation was discussed as a practical and commercially focused intervention, supporting a holistic vision while improving conditions for all road users. Safety emerged as a particularly important issue, with concerns around crime and the day-to-day experience of employees and visitors alike.   It was particularly interesting to hear the discussion around how public realm improvements can support both economic growth and the day-to-day experience of those using the street. With Velocity currently working on a number of projects on and around Oxford Street, the proposals are especially relevant, and it will be fascinating to see how the plans develop over the coming months.   Thank you to the London Property Alliance for hosting an engaging and thought-provoking event. #OxfordStreet #WestEnd #LondonDevelopment #PublicRealm #UrbanPlanning #TransportPlanning #Regeneration #Property #WPA #OSDC
