Maybe it's just me, but I still can't get over Spain's lineup against Cape Verde. I genuinely don't understand why Luis de la Fuente felt the need to change so much. You're playing against a team making its first-ever World Cup appearance. A team that everyone knew would sit deep, defend with numbers, and make it difficult to find space. So why are Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams on the bench? That's the part I can't wrap my head around. These are exactly the games where you need natural wingers. Players who can stretch the pitch, take defenders on, and create something when spaces are tight. Instead, Ferran Torres starts on the wing. Pedri is pushed higher up the pitch. Gavi is playing as a forward. And I'm sitting there watching the game wondering... why fix something that wasn't broken? Spain had the ball. Plenty of it. They controlled the game. But it never felt as dangerous as a Spain team with Yamal and Nico running at defenders. Full credit to Cape Verde and Vozinha. They were brilliant and absolutely deserved their point. But I honestly feel Spain made this game harder for themselves. Maybe Luis de la Fuente was thinking ahead to the next match. Maybe he wanted to rotate. Maybe there's something I'm missing. But when you're struggling to break down a low block and your two best wingers are sitting on the bench, it's hard not to feel frustrated.
