What looked like a simple idea on paper turned out to be one of the toughest engineering challenges we’ve worked on. 🏆 Proud to share that our project secured 3rd place at SciQuest 2026, MIT-WPU, among nearly 150 projects across the department. Our goal was to develop VISHVAAS — a rover integrated with a laser-based communication system to transmit environmental data while exploring the possibility of water detection beyond conventional RF communication. But the biggest challenge wasn't building the system. It was keeping it working. The slightest movement of the rover was enough to break the laser alignment, forcing us to recalibrate everything again and again. That process taught us how demanding precision-based communication systems are in real-world conditions. 🔧 Our project included: • Laser communication using a solar panel as the receiver instead of a conventional photodiode • Rover navigation on simulated terrain • Real-time monitoring dashboard • Environmental sensor data collection • Water exploration module • Ultrasonic obstacle detection More than the final result, this project taught us that engineering isn't about making a prototype work once—it's about making it reliable every single time. We're grateful to the Physics Department for providing us with this opportunity and for constantly encouraging us to think beyond the obvious. Special thanks to: • Dr. Mohammad Samsuzzaman for his insightful evaluation and thought-provoking questions. • Geetanjali Dagaonkar Ma'am for her continuous guidance and attention to detail throughout the project. • Dr. Rahul A. Aher Sir for his practical mentorship and motivation to take this work beyond the competition. This is only the beginning. Version 2 is already in progress, with a focus on making the system more stable, adaptive, and closer to real-world deployment. P.S. VISHVAAS isn’t just a name — it’s built from our team: V - Vinit Naik I - Ishwari Gite S - Samruddhi R.
