A key milestone for Vattenfall’s Nordlicht offshore wind parks: the load-out of the first monopiles has started at EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH in Rostock. 🚢 To support this operation, one of the world’s largest cranes has been installed on site - the Sarens Giant ring-based crane, a true engineering landmark:  Height: ~140 m – about as tall as the London Eye   Diameter: ~46 m – almost the length of an Olympic swimming pool   Lifting capacity: ~1,650 tonnes – about the weight of 10 blue whales This impressive heavy-lift setup will not only support Nordlicht I, but also Nordlicht II and other future offshore projects in Rostock. The first monopiles – that measure up to 80 m each and weigh up to 1,300 tonnes – are now on their way to Eemshaven in the Netherlands – another important step towards offshore installation. Nordlicht, consisting of Nordlicht I and II, is our flagship offshore wind project and a key proof point for the energy transition, delivering large-scale fossil‑free electricity and supporting Europe’s path towards industrial decarbonisation. Great to see this progress come to life together with our partners. 👏 #Nordlicht #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #EnergyTransition #theresaway
