Behind the Scenes of Patient-Centric Care: The Power of the MDT 🏥✨ Coming from a medical background where I’ve spent significant time assisting in the Operating Theatre, I am used to the fast-paced, high stakes energy of surgical intervention. In the OT, you see the immediate, hands on execution of a treatment plan. But last week, I had the privilege of experiencing a different kind of high stakes precision from The Lung Cancer Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meeting. If surgery is where the plan is executed, the MDT is where the blueprint is masterfully drawn. It was exciting to witness the behind the scenes synergy of oncology. Sitting in a room where respiratory physicians, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and specialist nurses combine their distinct expertise is a masterclass in collaborative medicine. Every single patient case is looked at through a multi dimensional lens: 1. Radiology & Pathology establishing the exact landscape of the disease. 2. Surgeons & Oncologists debating the optimal sequence of treatment, balancing resectability with systemic therapies. 3. Specialist Nurses ensuring the patient's holistic needs and quality of life remain at the absolute center of every decision. Having assisted in surgeries, seeing the meticulous, collaborative debate before a patient ever reaches the theatre table gave me a new perspective. It reinforced that exceptional cancer care isn’t just about individual clinical skill, it’s about collective intelligence, rigorous data review, and a shared mission to find the best possible path forward for every individual. An inspiring reminder of why I love medical science and the continuous evolution of oncology care. ☺️ Thank you Dr. Aravind Ponnuswamy, Svetlana Mysina and Medical Sciences - Chester Medical School University of Chester for organizing the meeting. #NHS #Oncology #LungCancer #MDT #MedicalScience #CancerResearch #Healthcare #MultidisciplinaryCare #Collaboration
