Three weeks before his wedding, drummer Ryan Beydler was lying in a Minneapolis street with a shattered arm after a scooter accident. One doctor told him he would probably never play drums ever again. Then he walked into Vanderbilt Health. Dr. Mihir Desai already knew Ryan's story before he walked in the room. He looked at the X-rays, acknowledged how bad it was, and told Ryan it wasn't anything he hadn't seen before. He scheduled surgery for the next day. For the first time since the accident, Ryan felt hope. Two weeks after Ryan’s surgery, occupational therapist Jon, a lifelong drummer himself, walked out of the room and came back with a drumstick. He placed it in Ryan's right hand. That evening, Ryan went home and tapped on a practice pad. "I am eternally grateful to the entire team at Vanderbilt. Dr. Desai, Jon, the people who took my X-rays, the folks who removed my cast, the front desk staff. Everyone made me feel seen through this entire process." As Ryan wrote those words to share with us, he was halfway through an international tour across Europe, Canada and the U.S. This is what our team does. This is why we show up.
