"Closed for duration” – Louisiana Acrylic on stretched canvas 46-33-2 cm; 2021 This little shop in a middle of an empty road in Louisiana has a sign saying “Closed of Duration”, referencing a closure for the duration of World War II. Were they young American gone to war in Europe? Did they come back to their country? There are so many questions unanswered about this painting. This painting is both a trip in the past and a trip abroad. Painted from a black and white photograph taken at that time and kept at the Library of Congress. Because the original photograph was in black and white, I was inspired by the 1987 movie “Bagdad café”.
