#Collaborative Asset Management: Technology Meets People This blog post is based on VTT’s and LUT University’s presentation on Euromaintenance 2026 Congress, and Maroua Ouerghemmi’s article in Maintworld Magazine, issue 2/2026. Modern asset lifecycle management is no longer a single-company activity. Data is created and used across asset owners, OEMs, engineering companies, and maintenance teams. Yet many organizations still struggle with fragmented data, disconnected systems, and limited collaboration. A recent VTT and LUT University case study of a forest industry upgrade project showed that successful lifecycle data management depends on shared data platforms, standardized asset information, early involvement of maintenance and operations, and strong collaboration between stakeholders. The study also identified common challenges, including outdated asset data, system integration gaps, inconsistent identifiers, and data quality issues. The findings support the emerging concept of Collaborative Asset Lifecycle Management (Co-Am), which focuses on six key areas: data quality, interoperability, security and trust, people and culture, value creation from data, and business renewal. The Human Side of Reliability A complementary perspective comes from Maroua Ouerghemmi's article The Human Side of Reliability. She was one of the most interesting keynote speakers at the event. While AI, analytics, and condition monitoring continue to advance, Ouerghemmi argues that reliability is ultimately built by people. Trust, communication, leadership, and the ability to turn strategy into daily practices remain essential for operational excellence. The message aligns closely with the Co-AM findings: technology enables collaboration, but people create value. Organizations that combine strong data management with a collaborative culture will be best positioned to improve asset performance and create ecosystem-wide benefits.
