To stay or not to stay in Medicine, that is the question. For the past few years, I've experienced what I can only describe as a career identity crisis. Not because I disliked medicine, but because I didn't fully understand what other career paths existed. Which is why I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to rotate across Sky over 21 days. From Commercial Finance and Business Strategy to Sky News, Marketing, Influencer Marketing and Content Creation, I was given a unique opportunity to explore careers I had previously only read about. The highlights from my time included: ✨ Supporting Sky News' coverage of the Bank of England interest rate announcement and having the opportunity to meet the Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey. ✨ Gaining insight into the wide variety of roles within Sky News and discovering a new interest in journalism. ✨ Shadowing the Group Strategy team and reaffirming my passion for strategy and consulting. ✨ Working alongside the Content Creation team and realising just how transferable the skills I've developed as a creator are within a corporate environment. So now the big question: Do I want to leave medicine? The answer is no. If anything, rotating around Sky has given me a newfound appreciation for how special medicine is as a discipline. The grass isn't greener on the other side. Simultaneously, I discovered that I have equal passions for medicine, business strategy, journalism and media. And in a perfect world, I would have the rewarding aspects of medicine alongside the luxury of the corporate lifestyle. So rather than choosing between the two, I am determined to build a career that allows me to have both. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A huge thank you to everyone who made this experience possible, especially Mqhele Mabhena, Chris Burkill, Ashley Alcaide, Maya Saxena, Tom Oriel, Mark Thomas, Ed Bayliss, Emily Marchant, Paul Kelso, Charlie Brunskill Claudia Osei-Nsafoah, for taking the time to share their knowledge and answer my countless questions. Last, and definitely not least, thank you, Clare Tharmarajah, for making this all possible. #medicalstudent #internship #sky #lifeatsky #media #journalism #career #blackexcellence #ambitious #blackundergraduateoftheyear #youngleader
