Backed by an ERC Consolidator Grant, UZH researcher Ataman Sendoel is tackling one of cancer’s most elusive secrets: how tumor cells manipulate protein production. 🧬 Inside every cell, millions of molecular machines are constantly building the proteins that keep us alive. At UZH, Ataman Sendoel is studying how cancer hijacks this process. Tumor cells selectively produce proteins that help them grow and evade treatment, turning a vital system into a powerful ally. 🔬 Using advanced techniques like ribosome profiling, researchers can now watch protein production in real time at the level of individual cells. This opens new insights into how healthy cells turn cancerous and why certain tumors, especially those with many stem-like cells, are so hard to treat. The goal: identify weak points in this process and develop therapies that target cancer without harming healthy tissue. 👉 Learn more about this “high risk, high reward” research: https://lnkd.in/ecyh5THr #UZH #UniversityofZurich #Medicine #CancerResearch Institute for Regenerative Medicine (IREM)
