UZH hosts the world’s largest database of Roman inscriptions. With over 540,000 entries and up to 30,000 daily queries, the Epigraphic Database Clauss-Slaby (EDCS) has become a key tool for exploring the ancient world. 💻 Led by Anne Kolb, epigraphist and professor of ancient history, the project uses digital technology to make more than 80% of all known Roman inscriptions accessible online. Thousands of new discoveries are added each year, continuously expanding this unique resource. From tombstones to military diplomas and even curse tablets, the database opens a direct window into everyday life in the Roman Empire. Slaby (1948–2024). It was transferred to UZH in 2025. #UZH
