Associate Professor Bill Howe spoke with Libby Denkmann on KUOW Public Radio. The interview addresses the increasing role of AI in the military, and how tech companies and their teams are addressing safeguards and ethics. "Outsourcing our AI governance to these kinds of sources is not sustainable," Howe says. He is the co-founding director of the Responsibility in AI Systems and Experiences center, UW RAISE. Policy about how and when AI is used should be informed by researchers from different fields, he says, including computer science, information science and law - but this is currently not the case.
