Professor Elizabeth Wayne recently shared the story of her mother's life-saving kidney transplant and her own "role of a lifetime" as a bioengineer during an event with Senator Patty Murray, celebrating recent legislation to fund The National Institutes of Health. "I get to help keep saving lives and expanding our knowledge of how the human body heals itself," she said of her own NIH-funded research. "I don't administer meds, but I do work to understand how to make them better. I teach immune cells how to fight better when you are sick."
