The ACM, Association for Computing Machinery annually recognizes the best Ph.D. dissertations in computer science with the ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award. This year, two of the three selected dissertations were the work of University of Washington University of Washington College of Engineering #UWAllen Ph.D. graduates: Ashish Sharma, now a senior applied scientist at Microsoft, won the award for his 2024 dissertation leveraging #AI to improve access to high-quality mental health support; Sewon Min, a research scientist at Ai2 and incoming faculty member at UC Berkeley Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences (EECS), received an honorable mention for her dissertation presenting a new class of language models that are more efficient and flexible.
