Collaboration in action across Virginia We’re excited to see two UVA Link Lab faculty members—Qiaochu Zhang and Shangtong Zhang—recognized in this year’s 4-VA Collaborative Research Grants announcement. These projects highlight the kind of cross-institution partnerships that move ideas from concept to impact: 🔹 Qiaochu Zhang (Electrical & Computer Engineering) is leading a project with George Mason University focused on embedding security directly into sensing hardware to help protect critical infrastructure from cyberattacks. 🔹 Shangtong Zhang (Computer Science) is contributing to collaborative research advancing AI and reinforcement learning, continuing to expand UVA’s leadership in intelligent systems research (as part of the broader 4-VA collaboration network). The 4-VA initiative connects universities across the Commonwealth to test new research ideas, strengthen partnerships, and create hands-on opportunities for students to engage in meaningful, real-world work. At the Link Lab, this kind of collaboration is core to what we do—bringing together expertise across institutions to tackle complex challenges in technology and society.
