🐝 Our BEE (Being Excellent Everyday) Award is an award dedicated to celebrating the team members who work alongside our nurses delivering expert, compassionate care. Meet our June honorees: University Medical Center occupational therapist Anna Bosworth, OTD, OTR/L, Angie Breeden, a surgical services scheduler at UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center, and Frances Arroyo, CST, a surgical tech lead at UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center! Anna was nominated by a coworker for assisting a patient and their family with managing health literacy, developmental delay management and in-hospital team and caretaker coordination so a patient could be successfully and safely discharged home as opposed to a skilled nursing facility. A fellow team member also nominated Angie, describing what really sets Breeden and her work apart: β€œAs the first person you see when walking into the Outpatient Surgery Center, Angie sets the tone for the entire patient experience. Her friendly smile and genuine enthusiasm instantly put people at ease.” Frances went above and beyond in part thanks to her Verified Interpreter Proficient (VIP) training, provided via UVA Health’s VIP program, which designates team members communicating in Spanish with a patient β€” or their family or caregiver β€” as proficient not only in the language but also in medical terminology, procedures, and concepts of care. As the scrub technologist for an after-hours procedure, Frances was there to translate for the surgeon, anesthesia, and staff. Her ability to bridge the language gap created an atmosphere of safety and security for the patient and team. We're incredibly proud to honor team members like Anna, Angie, and Frances who go above and beyond in their commitment to serving our patient community.
