From losing a childhood language to uncovering how vocal learning works, Todd Roberts, Ph.D., has followed a lifelong curiosity about how the brain acquires and loses speech. Now a Professor of Neuroscience and Investigator in the UT Southwestern O'Donnell Brain Institute, Dr. Roberts and colleagues have published a detailed wiring diagram of core songbird brain circuits critical for vocal learning. Using zebra finches as a model, the study offers new insight into how sensory and motor pathways interact, advancing our understanding of speech, language acquisition, and disorders where these processes go awry. https://bit.ly/43AO6Ej
