#OnThisDay in 1927, USS CONSTITUTION entered dry dock in the Charlestown Navy Yard, beginning an extensive four-year restoration. The work was extraordinary in scope. A near-total rebuild was needed to restore the ship’s structural integrity and preserve “Old Ironsides” for future generations. Nearly a century later, that commitment to preservation continues at the USS Constitution Museum, where we share the stories of the ship, the people who served aboard, and the generations who helped keep -- and continue to keep -- this national icon afloat.
