The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District recently completed annual maintenance dredging at Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point, North Carolina, to maintain safe and reliable navigation channels supporting the installation's national defense mission. The $6.3 million project removed up to 600,000 cubic yards of sediment and was completed by Curtin Maritime using the DB Catalina, the largest mechanical dredge in the Western Hemisphere. The project was carefully coordinated to minimize impacts to vessel traffic and environmentally sensitive species in the area.
